When you're covering a corporate gala, a product launch, or a wedding reception, you don't get second takes. The moment happens, you fire, and you move on. Your flash needs to expose correctly the first time, recycle fast enough for the next shot, and give you light that actually looks good on people's faces. That's the job, and the Godox V100 does it reliably.
We've been shooting with the Godox V100 on our Sony A7 IV for several months now, and it's become the flash we reach for first on every event and portrait shoot.
Round Head Design
The round head is the first thing you notice about the V100, and it's not just aesthetics. The circular flash tube produces a more natural, even light spread compared to traditional rectangular flash heads. The falloff is softer and more gradual, which translates directly to more flattering light on skin. When you're bouncing off a ceiling at a reception venue in Beverly Hills or firing through a diffuser for on-location portraits, that quality of light matters.
We pair the V100 with our Godox AK-R11 dome diffuser for most event work. TTL and Global Shutter Support
TTL metering on the V100 paired with our Sony A7 IV is genuinely excellent — and we don't say that lightly. We've used flashes where TTL is more of a suggestion than an actual reading, but the V100 nails exposure consistently shot after shot. During a wedding reception where you're going from a dark dance floor to a bright cocktail area in seconds, we leave it in TTL and trust it. It reads the scene accurately almost every time, even in tricky mixed-lighting situations with overhead tungsten and DJ uplighting. On the rare occasion it's slightly off, the exposure compensation wheel is right there for a quick adjustment. The Sony-specific version communicates perfectly with the A7 IV's metering system — no hunting, no misfires, no weird color shifts. It just works.
Global shutter support is a forward-looking feature that matters for newer Sony bodies and will become increasingly important as the industry moves in that direction. Even on the A7 IV, the flash sync performance is excellent and we've had zero banding issues at any sync speed.
Touchscreen Control
The rear touchscreen panel on the V100 is a significant upgrade over the button-and-dial interface on older Godox flashes. You can see all your settings at a glance, swipe between modes, and adjust power, zoom, and channel settings intuitively. During a fast-paced event, being able to glance at the screen and make a quick adjustment without pressing through menus is a real workflow improvement.

Everything in the Godox system talks to everything else. We can use the V100 on-camera as our main flash, then set up the parabolic umbrella with a second light as a key, all controlled from the same system. For a corporate headshot session at a client's office in Santa Monica, we'll use the UB-165W umbrella as the key light and the V100 on-camera as fill. The entire setup goes from car to shooting in under ten minutes.
Real-World Event Performance
We've shot with the V100 at wedding receptions in Pasadena, corporate galas in Downtown LA, product launches in Hollywood, and private events in the Hills. The recycle time is fast enough that we never miss a moment waiting for the flash to charge. The light quality, especially through the dome diffuser, consistently produces images that clients are happy with straight out of camera.
One detail worth mentioning: the V100 runs cool compared to some competing flashes. During a four-hour reception where we were firing consistently, the flash never overheated or throttled. That kind of reliability is non-negotiable for event work where you can't afford downtime.

What to Keep in Mind
The V100 is not the cheapest flash in the Godox lineup. If you're just starting out and don't need the round head or touchscreen, Godox makes more affordable options that still deliver solid TTL performance. But if you're doing professional event work regularly, the V100's build quality and feature set justify the investment.
The round head also means the V100 is slightly bulkier than some traditional flash designs. It's not heavy, but it does add a bit of visual mass on top of the camera. For event work this is a non-issue, but if you're going for the most compact possible setup, keep it in mind.
Battery life with the VB30 is generous, but we always carry our VB26 batteries as backups. Swapping batteries takes seconds, and running out of flash power during a reception is not something we're willing to risk.
