How We Use It
We don't treat Imagen as a replacement for manual editing. That's the most important thing to understand. For us, Imagen is the first round of action when we sit down with a fresh set of photos from a shoot.
After importing into Lightroom, we run Imagen's culling tool first. It analyzes every frame and flags what it considers the best shots based on sharpness, composition, expression, and duplicates. This alone saves us a significant chunk of time, especially on high-volume events like weddings where we might be looking at 2,000 to 4,000 raw files.
After culling, we run the AI editing profile across the selections. Imagen applies our trained style to every image, getting the baseline edit about 80 to 90 percent of the way there. From that point, we go through manually and fine-tune. Some images need more attention than others, but the starting point is dramatically better than working from raw files one at a time.
What It Does Well

What It Misses
Here's where honesty matters. Imagen's culling is good, but it is not perfect. We always go through the selections to verify what it chose, and it will miss some great shots. Maybe a candid moment where the composition isn't textbook but the emotion is everything. Maybe a detail shot it flagged as a duplicate when the framing was actually intentional. The AI doesn't understand context the way a photographer does.
This means you can't just trust the cull blindly and move on. You need to review it. If you skip that step, you will lose photos your clients would have loved. We've caught missed shots on almost every project, and some of them ended up being favorites in the final gallery.
The editing profile, while impressive, also isn't a finished product. Skin tones sometimes need adjustment. Backlit scenes occasionally get over-corrected. It's a strong first draft, not a final edit.
Pricing
Imagen offers subscription plans based on volume. For working photographers processing a steady flow of shoots, the cost is reasonable relative to the time saved. If you're only shooting occasionally, the math changes. We'd recommend calculating how many hours you spend on initial culling and editing per month and comparing that against the subscription cost.
